Racing World Mourns Justin Wilson
Racing fans in the U.K., the United States and around the world are in mourning following news that IndyCar driver Justin Wilson has succumbed to injuries suffered this past Sunday at Pocono Raceway. The British never regained consciousness after apparently being struck with a large piece of another driver’s car during the Verizon IndyCar race. Word has come out that no fewer than six people have benefited from organ donations from Justin Wilson. The Wilson family released a statement on the Justin Wilson website to announce his passing. Test were first undertaken back in 2009 following the death of Henry Surtees and the serious injuries suffered by Felipe Massa after each were struck by debris from other cars. Though the death of Justin Wilson this week is spurring on renewed interest in developing a type of cockpit canopy design, mush resistance remains in place on the part of some drivers and teams, mainly due to concerns about drivers being stuck in their cars in an emergency. Vettel heavily criticized Pirelli for the failure, which cost him nine positions in the final race standings, and there is speculation now that unless Pirelli manages to fix the issues with its F1 tyres in the near future, there could be a change of suppliers for the circuit after the current supply contract expires at the end of 2016.
