Justin Wilson Remains in Coma After IndyCar Crash
The Verizon IndyCar Series and racing fans await word this morning on updates regarding the status of British driver Justin Wilson, who remains hospitalized in critical condition and in a coma after a multiple-car crash at Pocono Raceway. The accident happened in the latter stages of the ABC Supply 500 this weekend, and it appears Wilson was struck in the head by a large piece of debris from race leader Sage Karam’s car, which had spun out on turn one of the track. The Frenchman started 12 Grand Prix races in his career, but made his reputation notably through his involvement in Formula One team ownership, starting in 1976. The Ligier team won its first Formula One race in 1977 in Sweden, with Jacques Laffite at the wheel. Guy Ligier’s involvement in F1 lasted through to 1992, after which heled a successful land fertilizer business. Guy Ligier was 85 years old. The victory in the Irwin Tool Night Race was Logano’s third of the season, and his second in as many years at this event. Harvick overcame two pit-road penalties to challenge Logano hard, and finished only .22 seconds off the pace.
